Markets
Live charts and a stock screener, with a plain-English guide to reading them. Charts are by TradingView and may be delayed.
Chart
How to read this chart
- Each candle is one day. The body spans the open and close. The thin lines (wicks) show the day’s high and low. Green means it closed above its open; red means below.
- Volume bars show how much traded. A big move on low volume is a weaker signal than the same move on high volume.
- Trend: a series of higher highs and higher lows is an uptrend. Lower highs and lower lows is a downtrend.
- Try it: use the symbol box to switch to a stock you know, then change the interval from daily to weekly and notice how the picture calms down.
- Remember: charts describe the past. They do not predict the future.
Stock screener
How to read the screener
- Market cap is the company’s total value. It tells you size, not quality.
- P/E is price divided by earnings. Compare it with companies in the same sector, never across sectors.
- Change % shows today’s move. One day says little. Look at weeks and months.
- Sort, then ask why. If a stock tops the list, find the news behind it before drawing conclusions.
- Next step: the Reading a company lesson shows how to go beneath the numbers.
